2025 Sabres Tryouts

Tryout Registration:

Due to the high number of players attending our Sabres tryouts over the coming week/s, we are encouraging participants to arrive at least 45 minutes early to begin the check in process.

Player Letter/Number Identification:

We will be assigning each player with a Letter/Number combination. Please check your child’s age group on the SBA website for their identification number combination for you to apply on their arm and leg.

NOTE: If you attended the pre-tryout, your number will be different. Do NOT apply the same number as the pre-tryout.

Birth Certificates:

It is a requirement of playing in the VJBL that player birth certificates are sighted by the registering Association (rule 7.2 of the VJBL Rules of Operation).

SBA tryout helpers will be checking player birth certificates commencing at tryouts across the weekend of October 4th, 5th and 6th. This will add to the wait time in the entry queue so we ask you to be patient.

If you are unable to present your child’s birth certificate then your child will not be permitted to tryout. We cannot stress this enough.

All we require is sighting a copy of your child’s birth certificate either as:

  • Photo
  • Pdf
  • Screenshot
  • hard copy

The SBA will not be keeping any copies.

Lists:

We will endeavour to publish the list of successful players invited to progress through to the next session the morning after the session has been completed.

Team Selection:

We are selecting teams in a shorter timeframe this year. Once preliminary teams have been selected there will be player movement as we enter the practice match / preparation phase for before grading commences.

Training sessions the week commencing Monday the 14th of October will still be closed to parents/families while we continue to modify our teams.

Player Feedback:

Due to the volume of players trialling we are not in a position to be offering individual feedback for each athlete that is not invited to the next trial.

Players from other VJBL Clubs:

A reminder that if you have registered for the Sabres pre-tryout and played rep basketball for another VJBL club in 2024, then you must complete the Permission To Train (PTT) process which is available on the VJBL website.

Non-Attendance:

A reminder that non-attendance without any notification will result in your child being removed from our tryout lists.

SBA Domestic:

As per SBA Bylaws, if you wish to be considered for Sabres selection, you will need to be registered and playing in SBA domestic competitions (A or B Grade in your age group) from the season commencing January 2025.

First Aid: Our coaches are first aid trained.

Closed Sessions:

A reminder that all of our tryout sessions are closed to parents. The door will be locked at the start of each session and the players will be released to parents in the main corridor outside the main reception at Tulip Street.
