New SBA Programs Launched for Term 4
Sabres & SBA Coaching Program for 2019
The SBA is proud to introduce a more varied and structured coaching program for 2019 that is designed to improve the all-round skills of both SBA junior domestic and Southern Sabres players.
Under the tutelage of the SBA’s two Head Coaches, Simon Giovannoni and Nathan Crosswell and other specialised coaches, a broad program of coaching clinics will take place from Monday to Friday at Sandringham Basketball Stadium and on Saturdays at Mentone Girls’ Secondary College.
Existing players would remember that the RID (Representative Individual Development) clinic was held each morning for Sabres players only and it was compulsory to attend.
This RID program has been replaced with the Sabres Rep Academy that is held on Wednesday morning only (7-8am) and can be attended by all age groups. Capped at 50 players per group, it is voluntary, and any Sabres player can attend.
Replacing RID is a comprehensive series of basketball programs covering key skill areas, which is open to every SBA player as well as non-members. Each group is limited to 50 players and this training comprises:
Sandringham Basketball Stadium
Monday 7-8am: SBA Guard School
Tuesday 7-8am: SBA Game Time
Thursday 7-8am: SBA Shooting School
Friday 7-8am: SBA Hoop school
Tuesday 4-4.50pm: Play 3 on 3 for boys & girls aged 6-9 (broad range of skills covered)
Wednesday 4-4.50pm: Sabre Cubs for boys & girls aged 6-9 (extensive range of skills covered)
Mentone Girls’ Secondary College
Saturday 9-9.50am: Sabre Cubs for boys & girls aged 6-9 (extensive range of skills covered)
Saturday 10-10.50am: Play 3 on 3 for boys & girls aged 6-9 (broad range of skills covered)
Saturday 12-1pm: Girls Skills for girls aged 6-12 (broad range of skills covered)
Saturday 12-1pm: Boys Skills for boys aged 6-12 (broad range of skills covered)
SBA CEO, Craig Weir, said the changes provide additional specialised training for every member of the Southern Basketball Association from boys and girls aged 6 to Under 18 players.
“While the Sabres Academy training is now once a week, we encourage junior Sabres players to attend our other training sessions as many times as they like, because their skill levels will advance.”
As a forerunner to the 2019 program, 2018 Term 4 Programs will be operating with the new schedule. Check posters around the Sandringham Basketball Stadium for more information or view www.southernbasketball.com.au.
