Return to Sport Update – September 1st

Return to Sport – 1 September Update

Unfortunately, the current COVID restrictions and lockdown conditions will continue until 23 September (or 70 per cent of the Victorian population vaccinated with at least one dose) in accordance with today’s announcement from the Victorian Government, on advice from the Department of Health.

RESTRICTION LEVEL
In line with Victorian Government health directives, basketball in Victoria will remain at the
RED-0 REACTIVATION LEVEL as per the Basketball Victoria Return to Sport Guidelines.

We remain in close communication with the Department of Health and Sport and Recreation Victoria (SRV) to ensure indoor basketball can reactivate as quickly as possible following the current restrictions.

We appreciate your understanding and patience throughout these difficult times.

Please review the Basketball Victoria Return to Sport Guidelines for further information.

Leagues, Programs and Events Update
Updates regarding Basketball Victoria leagues, programs and events are as follows regarding today’s announcement:

VJBL
With the extension of the lockdown, the 2020/2021 VJBL season has been cancelled. This is an unfortunate outcome and one we wished to avoid, but there are insufficient weeks available following the lockdown to return to the 2020/2021 season before the 2021/2022 season would need to commence.

Big V
With the extension of the lockdown, the 2020/2021 Big V season has been cancelled. While our intent was to play finals and grand finals at the start of September, the extended lockdown has removed all available weeks remaining in the schedule to accommodate the return to the season.

NBL1 South
With the extension of the lockdown, the 2020/2021 NBL1 South season has been cancelled. While our intent was to play finals and grand finals at the start of September, the extended lockdown has removed all available weeks remaining in the schedule to accommodate the return to the season.

Under-12 Skills Days / Under-12 Identification Camp
This year’s Under-12 Skills Days and Under-12 Identification Camp will be postponed until further notice. Basketball Victoria will make every effort to reschedule these events to ensure continuity in our High Performance programs at the start of our pathway.

Mental Health
There are several resources to help assist you through the lockdown period, including the Welcome to Head to Health website – which helps you find digital mental health and wellbeing resources, for yourself or for those in your community – as well as VicHealth’s list of Ten go-to mental health organisations for young people.
