What a weekend it was for our Sabres Men, Shea Ili, David Barlow and David Okwera in the Melbourne United NBL side as they came away with
2 big wins putting them in the top 6 at the end of round 5.
David “DSav” Okwera
Okwera is turning heads in the NBL. “D-Sav” showed the fans why he is a starting 5 player as he (alongside Jack Humphries) orchestrated a 6-0 run for Melbourne United, changing the momentum of the game against Perth Wildcats at John Cain Arena. Okwera’s rim protection and hustle was outstanding in the two games across the weekend against Illawarra and Perth. It was great to see him show the United fans his incredible athleticism.
Okwera averaged 8 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 blocks and 4 steals over the two wins.
David Barlow
Having announced his retirement one day and then signing to play 1 more season with United the next, veteran David Barlow continues to be a leader on and off the court. David came away from the weekend, playing big minutes and continuing to make solid plays, read the game and make good basketball decisions.
Shea Ili
The Shea Ili is back and ready to help propel Melbourne United’s season.
Having missed Melbourne’s first seven games due to a concussion, Shea got going early against the Perth Wildcats by draining back-to-back threes off the dribble, sending the United faithful into a frenzy. Shea was on restricted minutes due to his recent injury, but came away with 3 rebounds, 4 assists and 9 points in United’s big 94-77 win.
Welcome back Shea!
