Return to Sport Update – 12 February
The following is an update from Basketball Victoria regarding Victorian Stage 4 restrictions announced today (12/2/21) by the Victorian Government and Department of Health.
From Friday 12 February at 11.59pm the Victorian Government, on advice from the Department of Health, has enacted Stage 4 restrictions for all of Victoria, with these measures in effect from Friday 12 February at 11.59pm until Wednesday 17 February at 11.59pm.
VICTORIAN JUNIOR BASKETBALL LEAGUE
While restrictions are being enforced from 11.59pm tonight (Friday 12 February 2021), Basketball Victoria has made the decision to postpone all Victorian Junior Basketball League (VJBL) games scheduled for tonight. This decision is not taken lightly but is in the best interest of community health and safety. Basketball Victoria will aim to reschedule these VJBL games with further information to be announced next week.
COUNTRY BASKETBALL LEAGUE
All Country Basketball League (CBL) games scheduled for this weekend (Saturday 13 February/Sunday 14 February 2021) have been declared a washout in accordance with league rules.
ALL OTHER BASKETBALL
Basketball Victoria also highly recommends that no basketball should be played across Victoria for the rest of today (Friday 12 February) even with Stage 4 restrictions commencing at 11.59pm this evening.
In line with Victorian Government health directives, for the next five days basketball in Victoria will be reduced to the RED-0 REACTIVATION LEVEL as per the current Basketball Victoria Return to Sport Guidelines.
Basketball Victoria has not made a decision regarding the status of the Under-18 Country Championships, held in Bendigo, or the Under-16 Country Championships, held in Traralgon, with both scheduled to be held on 20-21 February. We will have further updates regarding these events and all basketball-related activities as soon as available.
We will be in close communication with the Department of Health and Sport and Recreation Victoria to ensure basketball can be reactivated as quickly as possible following this lockdown. We appreciate your understanding and patience throughout this time period.
Please review the Return to Sport Guidelines (Version 9 / 10 February) for further information.
RETURN TO SPORT REACTIVATION STATUS – From FRIDAY 12 FEBRUARY AT 11.59pm
