U14.1 SABRE GIRLS | JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIPS

What a week it has been for our U14.1 Girls!

Our U14.1 Sabre girls qualified to attend the Under 14 Australian Basketball Championships this week in Sydney, and what a week it has been so far. The girls flew through the first few games with two big wins against Manly Warringah Sea Eagles (64 v 36) and Canberra Nationals (66 v 37). These results allowed the girls to progress through to the next pool phase where they encountered their first loss against Casey Cavaliers (52 v 61) before finishing strongly with a win in the “battle of the Sabres” against Adelaide’s Sturt Sabres (39 v 35).

The quarterfinal saw the team face the undefeated Nunawading Spectres in a tough loss (51 v 32). The girls then played in a classification round to determine their final placing against the Eastern Mavericks, which they lost (49 v 39) meaning they will now play off for 7 or 8th spot tonight at Penrith Basketball Stadium. This is a great achievement for a team tat has a 5/5 split between bottom and top age girls.

A big congratulations and well done to everyone involved: all 10 players – Serena Lee, Ruby Marsh, Kate O’Brien, Holly Kearney, Taya Woolhouse, Tessa Finch, Dakota Ibbott, Madi Ryan, Jasmine Chilco-Burns and Tijana Bajic , Head Coach Cal Charge, his Assistant Coach Callum Taylor and Team Manager Dani Kearney. Special thanks also to the families of the girls who made the trip over to support the girls.

The SBA are very proud of their achievements!
